the bwbv story by ryann louie

What I’ve experienced with live music is a sense of togetherness, inclusivity, and collective action. (2024 Capitol Hill Block Party)

Dancing and singing along are just the outward expressions of the musical beat we all feel in our hearts. My idea for bringing the party to politics was through live music, education, and voting. That’s how Better World, Better Vote was born.
Our free, fun, ballot party, music festival is meant to bring the young, music loving souls in Spokane together to celebrate a new way to show up in politics. (Reimagine Spokane logo)

Reimagine Spokane is a movement and mindful mentality that keeps me inspired to not only reimagine our community, but also myself and my role in it. The nonprofits I lead, Asians for Collective Liberation in Spokane and Asians for Collective Action are here to do exactly what their names say they’re going to do!

Here’s a hot take: If we want a better world, we better vote. Voters in the younger, BIPOC, and female identifying demographics have yet to fully turnout to vote ever since they fought for and gained their rights to do so.

Remember, voting was only for white, land owning men. Today that is the demographic who still hold all the power. Could it be because a large majority of voters are older (55+), white, men? The data trends and the world around me leads me to say, yes.

Creating opportunities for change and collective liberation is one of the hardest things to do when the dominant narrative clearly wants to maintain the injustice and inequities that serve them. Though it won’t happen overnight, I believe that we can start to reimagine and take action now for the world of tomorrow. You want a better world? Better vote! (BWBV goat designed by Felix Coffin)
